The Future of Legal Services in the United States: The ABA Issues a Clarion Call for Change

This panel will explore the significance of the ABA’s groundbreaking Report on the Future of Legal Services in the United States, issued this August. Among its recommendations, the Report calls on state supreme courts to consider regulatory changes, with implications for all law firms and other providers of legal service. In this session, William Hubbard and Judy Perry Martinez, who led the Commission’s work, will discuss the Commission’s findings and conclusions.  A remarkable panel, which includes a sitting state supreme court chief justice, the co-founder of one of the most innovative new models for providing legal service, the leaders of two of the most significant centers for the delivery of legal service for low income citizens, and the leader of a state bar association that differs with some of the Commission’s conclusions, will then discuss the implications of the Report for all industry participants in an informative and lively fashion.
