Terry Thompson is Ropes & Gray’s chief operating officer. Terry plays a leadership role in setting the firm’s aspirations and providing partners and practices with the support needed to achieve them. Terry oversees all of the firm’s business operations including finance, information services, HR, marketing communications, business development, practice development, and real estate and facilities. Under Terry’s leadership, the firm’s support team members strive to provide the highest degree of service while serving as trusted advisors to the partnership. Previously, Terry spent six years at Mercer, a $4 billion global consulting, outsourcing, and investment subsidiary of the Marsh & McLennan Companies, where he was Mercer’s chief financial officer and then chief operating officer. As chief operating officer, Terry oversaw three business lines as well as the firm’s strategy and corporate development, information technology and real estate functions, while serving as the primary coordinator across Mercer’s global matrix. Earlier, Terry was vice president of restructuring, strategy and planning at Mirant Corporation, an energy producer, and also held positions at Delta Air Lines, the Boston Consulting Group and Coopers & Lybrand. Immediately before joining Ropes & Gray in 2013, Terry served as president and chief executive officer of DF King Worldwide, a global financial communications and stakeholder management firm.
